The Junk Removal industries often do not like handling metal as recycled junk. However, all of them remove tossed paper, cardboard, and glass. In the US, separate number coding added to plastic material for recycling is given below.

Number 1 - Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET): Used for manufacturing water bottles, soft drink bottles, vegetable oil containers. PET is recyclable but unsuitable for reuse because chemicals can seep in.

Number 2 - High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE): Used for manufacturing milk bottles, oil bottles, laundry detergent bottles, shampoo bottles. HDPE plastics are recyclable and reusable.

Number 3 - Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): Used for manufacturing plastic pipes, plastic sheathing for cords, electrical cables, toys, and plastic packaging. PVC cannot be recycled or reused due to leaching chemicals.

Number 4 - Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE): Used for preparing plastic bags used for purchasing groceries, breads, and dry cleaner garments. LDPE is extremely safe and can be reused for everything, including recycling.

Number 5 - Polypropylene (PP): Used to manufacture car bumpers, children’s toys, lawn furniture, and luggage. Also, to make plastic liners/bags found in cereal boxes. PP is safe for reuse, and only recently, it is widely recycled.

Number 6 - Polystyrene (PS): Used to manufacture cheap plastic for disposable food packages, Styrofoam cups, plastic cutlery, foam insulation. PS must not be reused for food purposes since it seeps chemicals that can be carcinogens. Additionally, PS materials cannot be recycled, so most of these end up in landfills.

Number 7 - Others: This group of plastic includes Polycarbonate, BPA, and Acrylic. These cannot be segregated into any of the above Number 6 categories. Another plastic is the compostable plastic manufactured from corn starch. Except for compostable materials, labelled as “PLA” or “Compostable,” plastics should never be reused. Also, recycling depends on the location.
